indefinite hiatus for Eat-N-Beat

The Eat-N-Beat munch and party will not be held this month. It is on indefinite hiatus, looking for a new location.

The story as we hear it ...
Power Exchange club rented the building from a person. The city of SF forced that person into bankrupcy, which forced the sale of the building. This past weekend was the last weekend the club operated at the Otis St location. The PE club itself was doing fine, and is looking for a new location, perhaps south of SF. They also now have a location in Las Vegas, but that's a bit far for a Thursday party.

More Barriers

I try very hard to live without transferring my issues to others, especially in this community. What anyone else does is, in general, their own business. I do have something I’ve been thinking about lately, though, that I plan to just deal with on a personal level, but I would like to mention it here to promote it a bit.

I’m interested in promoting oral barrier protection in the community. I don’t think we do it enough.

Most people, rightly so, believe that oral sex is an extremely low-risk activity for HIV exposure. (http://www.planetout.com/health/hiv/?sernum=1869 )

There are, though, a number of things that *can* be transmitted orally, including syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and herpes. Currently, San Francisco is in the midst of a syphilis epidemic ( http://www.healthypenis.org/news/execPlan.pdf ) and given our tendency to gather together in bunny piles with some frequency, it could spread quite rapidly in our community.

There was also a recent study that linked HPV, oral sex, and throat cancer. ( http://www.webmd.com/sexual-conditions/hpv-genital-warts/news/20070509/hpv-linked-to-throat-cancer )

I would also like to point out that, while the community gathered together to effectively deal with HIV and AIDS in the ‘80s and ‘90s, that was as a *reaction* to the epidemic. It hit first, it hit hard, and it hit here. We will likely have more pandemics in the future and it would be nice if San Francisco was doing the right things *before* something like that hit.

Let some other city be the poster child for a new disease.

I mean, think about it. They’re up to Hepatitis G now, what are Hepatitis Q, R, or S going to do to us when they come around? Given the evolution of pathogens in general, what happens if we start seeing antibiotic-resistant forms of gonorrhea and chlamydia—oh wait, we are starting to see some of those: ( http://www.aegis.com/news/wb/2004/WB040501.html )

So, I said this was something I was going to address on a personal level, what that means is that I intend to do fellatio with oral condoms and cunnilingus and rimming with non-microwavable Saran Wrap with everyone, even my fluid-bonded partner when we are playing in public. In the past, because we are fluid bonded, we just sort of ran off to a corner of the play party and squished away there.

What you choose to do is your business. I think it would be good for me to set a good example and help eroticize the whole oral-barrier scene. It is my hope that other people might be motivated by the above to do the same thing. At the very least, I want to promote it to the point where it doesn’t seem like an odd activity or an activity you’re doing because you’re forced to because of a partner’s status. I would like to see it viewed as a normal and acceptable activity in our community.

I care about all of you and I want to see you healthy and happy and participating in all of the fun sexual activities that the Bay Area has to offer for as long as you wish to.

Beneath the stairs of the first floor, surrounded by dark hallways and dimly-lit
rooms, a group of men, women, and transsexuals prepare in the fenced dungeon that
makes up the bottom floor. They pull erotic toys out of their luggage—whips, dildos,
chains, and much more—while women peel off their street clothes in front of the
group. Minutes later, men wearing leather gear use floggers, a form of rubber whips,
to strike the bare backs of three nude women, two of whom are strapped to an x-shaped
plank. They squeal and moan in a simultaneous feeling of anguish and gratification.

Not every person in this vault-like room with flames painted on the walls is participating
in the play area designed for torturous pleasure. Some sit and watch while others
await a willing partner for themselves. Voyeurs stand behind the fence watching
in arousal, indulging the participants.

“Some men just stand there and masturbate while watching, and to me, that is a form
of applause,” explains Robin, a transvestite and cross-dressing bisexual. Wearing
a dirty blonde wig and crimson colored paint on her slender lips, Robin saunters
in and around the crowd, making sure that her friends aren’t bothered by unwanted
strangers or men trying to get a freebie—they typically play with the people they
come with. Amidst the security of her friends, she flirts with a potential participant.
Minutes later, the man is plastered on the plank, his wrists in chains while Robin
gives him oral sex. A group of men in their fifties and sixties sits on a nearby
couch, relaxing and smiling at the lascivious demonstration.

They are the first patrons of the night, arriving at the door of the Power Exchange
Sex Club, a place where people engage in uninhibited fornication with consenting
members. It’s a place where people can come to role-play, dress in kinky clothing,
amuse themselves with eccentric toys, have non-conformist sex such as BDSM (bondage
and submission dominance and sadomasochism), or just observe. The Power Exchange
is one of the biggest, and first legal, sex clubs on the West Coast. Because the
club is highly secure and open to a variety of sexual practices, it is a haven for
the exhibitionist and definitely doesn’t accommodate conservatives who prefer intercourse
behind closed doors.

This is an essential Thursday night of pleasure for a group of twenty or so friends
and acquaintances who meet for their monthly gathering to play in erotic pleasures
after a night of dining. They avoid discussing their lives at home or their occupations;
their goal is simply to get together and have a night of fun, explains GARi “G-Shot,”
the initiator of this routine of munching and playing. The medium-built man wearing
all black elaborates on his idea of getting a group of sexually eager individuals
together by making an agreement with Mike Powers, the owner and founder of the club.

This particular crowd welcomes a diverse range of people who are nondiscriminatory
and accepting to all sexual orientations and all forms of play. BDSM, one of the
more popular activities, utilizes both dominant and submissive practices. The dominant
party usually takes control while the submissive appears helpless and endures painful
whippings and penetrations.

There are no limits with toys and play, as long as the members are consenting. It
is safe to say that nothing is astounding to people that frequent the club. Aaron
Ericson, manager of the Power Exchange, recalls an event from one of the Fetish
Balls—a themed monthly venue at the club that attracts a massive crowd and has been
deemed the busiest night of the month. During a particular Fetish Ball evening,
a lesbian couple joined a kinky-couple’s contest: “The girlfriend stuck her fist
up her girlfriend’s vagina thirty-six times,” Ericson laughs.

Power Exchange is a family-run operation and opened its doors in 1995 after the
legal debate of gay sex clubs and unsafe sex practices spurred in the 1980s. Michael
Powers, former mayoral candidate of SF and the founder of the club, relocated it
in 1998 from a smaller location on Harrison Street to the more spacious Otis Street
building. Visitors of the club must come inside with an open mind and a mature demeanor.
Even though the club is extremely liberal toward sexual desires and preferences,
it still adheres to a strict set of rules, and all drugs and alcohol are prohibited
inside.

“Respecting the visitors of the club is highly emphasized,” says Ericson. “We don’t
tolerate immature behavior.” The tattooed manager with a ring hugging his nose explains
that this business is just like any retail business and that customer satisfaction
is vital to keeping the club up and running. The friendly Ericson ensures the safety
of his guests, greets customers, and exchanges smiles and words with regulars. “Safe
sex and sanitation is very important,” Ericson says, pointing out the numerous baskets
of condoms, paper towels, gloves, and hand-sanitizers available in every room.

Joe Weigand, a sixty-three-year-old dominant, makes sure he does an extensive cleaning
after a scene in which he causes his submissive partner to have an orgasm with a
stainless steel dildo-like instrument, splashing vaginal fluids on the floor. With
latex gloves and sanitizing spray, he wipes the ground with paper towels when his
partner and he have finished.

Weigand is part of the closely-knit BDSM scene, which includes The Citadel, a BDSM
club that opened in 2003, and the Society of Janus, a non-profit organization created
in 1974. He is a volunteer at both the Citadel and SOJ and recalls being intrigued
by BDSM at the young age of twelve. “I had fantasies of tying up little girls and
had always had sick thoughts.” He adds that sex was oppressed in the fifties and
sixties and it wasn’t until the seventies that he met people from the underground
sex scene who were into kinkiness like he was. He used to be a frequent visitor
of the Power Exchange and attended by himself, but he admits now that he only comes
with a group about once a month.

Three floors dwell in this forty-thousand square foot building resting on the corner
of Otis and Mission Street. A neon green sign welcomes people passing by. The rooms
are plentiful and exude an artistic theme of vibrant colors visible through the
dim fluorescent lighting. The Egyptian, Gothic, and Medieval-inspired rooms are
just a few of the options for partners there to engage in erogenous fantasies. The
room in the center of the building is called the Mixed Club, welcoming heterosexuals,
lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender men and women. If the door to one of
the many rooms is open, a couple or sex partners are inviting others in. If the
door is closed, the room is off limits, but voyeurs are still welcome to watch.
A stroll through the labyrinthine hallways of this club offers a deluge of sights
for the sex-crazed or curious, including everything from screens displaying pornographic
videos to couches, beds, sex machines, and gadgets.

For the eighteen-and-over crowd that is comfortable with their sexuality or simply
wants to experience something new, Power Exchange provides a unique experience.
This can be a safe places to explore, because protection is emphasized and security

Going in to heat.

Hi,
I feel like I'm going in to heat! It's terrible. Its' all I can think about! I feel like I'm a sixteen year old again. Being in this condition make it kind of hard to think clearly since all my though processes seem to inevitably lead back to sex. It's like trying to go shopping when your hungry. Everything looks good! It's probably not a good idea to try to make rational decisions while in a constant state of hornyness. Does any one else get these sudden attacks of libido?

And yes, I've tried to take care of it but that just seems to make it worse.

However, downward strokes avoid stimulating the sweet spot, so the bottom gets only endorphins, but not as much arousal. This playshop focuses on effectively flogging upward, into the sweet spot, and ways to solve the problems that arise, such as bounce, pocket, crowding, and scatter.

This is a third-level workshop. To get the most out of it, you would already be comfortable doing some (probably downward) two-flogger techniques. During the presentation, we will not repeat introductory flogging material. However, during the hands-on part, we'll work with each attendee at their current level. The class is aimed at advanced players, but may be suitable for some intermediates.

This is a hands-on playshop. It is best to bring two floggers of similar lengths. Falls of 16-22" are good for learning this. Flogger substitute equipment will be available if you don’t have your own.
Eye protection strongly recommended for tops.

By the end of this class, you should have more effective inverted strokes, and understand how to convert every downward stroke pattern into an upward pattern. We will teach inverted three-beat weave to all those who are ready for it.

The evening has four parts (times approximate):

7:30 - 8:00 Presentation and Demos
8:00 - 9:30 Guided Hands-on Double Flogging practice
9:30 - 10:30 Open practice.

Paideia (“pie DAY ah”) is a Greek word meaning “learning through play”. Paideia evenings are more than regular workshops. First we socialize. You may bring your dinner or snacks to eat during the munch period. Then we see demos. Then we do the guided hands-on workshop. You’ll mainly work in pairs learning and refining your skills. 8th Annual Dog-n-Pony weekend -- how wonderful!

Now that the dust of all those paws and hooves has settled a bit (and I've made it through final exams this week -- woohoo!!), I have some personal reflections and some gratitude to express.

Wow, what a weekend! We were thrilled with the wonderful mix of people from throughout the greater BDSM community who came together to create the magic we experienced with all the packs and herds and flocks and gaggles and .... well, whatever collective names for animals that apply ... who gathered just a week ago to celebrate the 8th Annual Dog-n-Pony Show weekend. It still amazes me when I see the energy people bring to this play. We had an amazing collection of ponies and pups and kittens, as usual, but we also had a mermaid, and bunnies, and sheep, and tigers, and wolves, and foxes, and .... well, quite a menagerie, to say the least.

We are very grateful to our Dog-n-Pony presenters:

"Pony": Ponymistress Rebecca, Pixie Pony and Pony Windy
And, of course, Smash Greywolf, from the viewpoint of the Fox in the Fox Hunt.

We'd also like to thank Empress Rhea and Svad for bringing the fine pony cart and harness to SFCitadel on Saturday. We only wish we'd had more time in the schedule to allow everyone time to really appreciate it.

We had excellent participation in the workshops and breakout sessions, and are looking forward to building on this year's ideas to make the workshop tracks even better next year. We're already discussing ideas for additional new workshops, with possibly multi-tracking the classes, or running a full day schedule.

Thanks to all of those who showed up to our "Pets in the Park" outing on Sunday. After all our concerns about the weather, we had about as perfect a day for the picnic as you could ask for. Thanks to all of you who brought the pony (and dog?) carts. Lots of pulling fun was had by all.

We'd also like to thank SFCitadel and all the volunteers who helped us create and hold the magical space for everyone to play in -- as well as those in the community who came to both parties and played, and shared space, with the critters.

I also want to thank those in the animal role play community who keep the energy going all year round. Thanks go to Davor and the regulars at the Pony Munch at Sparky's in the Castro -- the second Wednesday of every month. I wish Wednesday nights weren't so difficult for us, so we could join you more often. And let's not forget all the events held during the "outdoor play" season at The Ranch - Ponymistress Rebecca's Pony Play Days and Fox Hunts. This is exactly the kind of synthesis within the community that we've hoped to spark at the workshops -- and it's fantastic to see the way you've taken things from theory into reality at these events. I know we probably speak for the rest of the community when we say how grateful we are for the energy of those who are willing to take this play to that level.

So, for those of you who attended, once again, thanks so much for your energy and enthusiasm. You helped make it the wonderful weekend it was! And for those of you who couldn't make it this year, we hope to see you at the 9th Annual Dog-n-Pony Show weekend next spring!

I thought you might get a kick out of this story........

I was speeding this morning on my way to work, 65 in a 35 zone, yikes!
To make matters worse, I was talikng on my cell phone, no ear plug.

Of course I got pulled over, of course I knew I was going to get a big, fat ticket. I was prepared for the worse.
So, with nothing to lose, I decided to let my kinky self come out for the interaction.

It went like this:

Occifer: "Well, you're in a big hurry this morning."

Kinky Kim: "Yes, Sir, sorry, I wasn't paying attention."

Occifer: "And you were talking on your cell phone."

Kinky Kim: "Sir, just hand cuff me now and take me away."

Occifer: <smiles wide through helmet and glasses>

Kinky Kim: "Truth be known, I actually quite like that sort of thing, Sir."

Occifer: <Bigger smile, slight shift in stance, wink wink>

Occifer walks to motorcycle, calls in to check for warrants, etc. returns to car window, driver side. Kinky Kim braces herself for the worst, bound to be at least $250.00 bucks, she thinks. Can't afford it, yikes. <Stays cool under pressure though>

Occifer: "You know in about a year that's gonna be illegal, (referring to cell phone use or the desire to be hand cuffed?, she wonders in silence), now you have a nice day, Hon.

Occifer drives off, Kinky Kim is gob-smacked! No ticky? How could that be, I didn't even deny I was speeding, I surrendered immediately, ready to accept my punishment.

Moral of the story:
If you got a kink, use it, you never know when it might be appreciated by someone else.

Seeking a lab partner for Thursday night flogging playshop

New to the scene (and not a Tribe.net guy at all, so apologies for the lack of info in my profile). Looking for a lab partner for the Thursday night Paideia playshop. Me: 35, but often (conveniently) mistaken to be younger, 6'2, 195 lbs, dark brown hair & eyes, definitely good looking (or so I like to think!). Eager to learn and practice from both sides of the whip. I believe I'm a switch at heart, though I don't actually have the practical experience to know. My ideal lab partner would be a guy, 25-45, with intermediate-level experience. Enough to teach me a few things, perhaps, but not enough to be bored by the fact that I'm just learning the ropes. Having said that, a male lab partner is by no means a necessity! I'll bring a willingness to play in the spirit of learning, and I'd love to find that in a partner for Thursday night.

In keeping with the original presentations and the tradition of Southern Cross, this class is presented free of charge to everyone, although we will pass the hat for the NCSF.
Morgan has been in the local scene for over 10 years. She served as coordinator for the Society of Janus, as well as hosted Sobad, South Bay Area Discussion Group for 8 years. Morgan was one of the founders of smOdyssey and helped it grow here in the South Bay. Within Odyssey, Morgan started the educational program, but will be best remembered for providing the look and feel of all events that made smOdyssey events stand out as special under her guidance. In 2003, Morgan decided to step back from the day to day operations of smOdyssey and with Jerome “Treasure” chose the first provisional board of directors for the organization.

Morgan conceived of and for 5 years hosted From The Fire, a group for the Women of BDSM. She also is often asked to speak at Bay Area Colleges about the reality of BDSM and the reasons why people are attracted to the lifestyle. Morgan identifies as an Erotic Dominate and has taught classes within that definition all over the Bay Area and Sacramento. Beginners Dungeon was born about 8 years ago to provide new comers with the information to help them walk safely into the community.

Power Exchange schedule changes?

before you go to PE on a Sunday night, I advise you to call them after 9p on the Friday or Saturday before you go to ask if the club will be open Sunday. I was told last Saturday night the PE wil no longer be open on Sunday night, but will continue to be open for fun on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights 9p to 6am.
it would be nice if management from PE might confirm this "officially".

My favorite nights are Thursdays for more tranny/ tranny chaser play and Saturday nights for more dungeon play.

The regular "Third Thursday" munch and play is Thursday night, February 16th, 2005. This munch is followed by an evening of dungeon play at the infamous Power Exchange (PE). We have a critical mass of leather folks to make our own community within PE, and so have a fun evening. The munch part allows people to relax first and get to know each other, as well as to wind down from the day. This event is also known as Gari’s munch, or the SMACK-n-Play party.

Those who don’t like the usual energy at PE will find this event refreshing. There is no pressure to play, and everyone feels safe. Singles, couples, and groups all welcome.

Munch RSVPs requested so we can better advise the restaurant how many tables to set aside. Email edukink@yahoo.com with "RSVP" in the subject line. But if you can’t rsvp, come along anyway. We’re at the tables farthest from the front door, by the mirrors.

You may come to either the munch, or the party, or both. People who attend the munch usually have dinner, but it’s ok to just have a snack or beverage, or just chat. The restaurant knows we’re kinky, and likes us. You may wear leather, fetish or vanilla.

We aim to be welcoming. This event attracts and welcomes all genders, orientations and play styles. We attract a mix of bdsm, poly, leather, fetish, tranny, goth, gender, kinky, exhibitionist, voyeur, and other folks. We have many regulars, plus new people every time. Some people bring toy bags, some don’t. We get a wide range of ages, races, backgrounds, and outlooks; we celebrate diversity. 18 and over only.

At 9 pm we walk from the restaurant, gather in front of PE, and enter as a group. If you enter before or after our one group, you won’t get the discount. Don’t ask them for it, you’ll just ruin it for everyone. Usually all/most of our party is coupled up and gets in free. Non-coupled males who enter the Power Exchange with or without our group will be charged the $15 entry fee. Couples who enter without our group are charged $10.

It’s one block between the restaurant and dungeon. Most people park in front of PE, then walk to and from the restaurant. Note that there have been car break-ins in this area, so don’t leave anything visible or valuable in a vehicle.

Once inside PE, we usually take over the two largest spaces in the basement. Most of our party stays together, but you’re welcome to explore or play anywhere. Some people start playing immediately, others continue socializing. It’s a warm, relaxed evening, where we create our own energy. There is plenty of flirting, sharing tips, co-topping, group play, and other frolics. Some do pickup play, some only play with their partner, some don’t play in public. Some of us must leave by 11 pm, others stay way past midnight. We often have the whole place to ourselves for the first hour or two.

We discourage heavy cruising, which would drive people away. It’s ok to express an interest in playing with someone. Once only. Then let them get back to you if they’re interested.

This workshop solidifies your flogging techniques. It is suitable for beginners, but aimed at intermediates who want to improve and extend their skills. We cover the psychology of flogging, and both common and uncommon techniques – making you more versatile and effective. Learn and practice ten basic strokes, and know when to use them. Practice integrating flogging into whole scenes.

The evening has four parts:
7 – 7:30 Brown Bag Munch
7:30 – 8 Demos and tips
8-9:45 Hands-on Workshop
9:45-10:30 Open practice, using flogging in a scene of your choice.
All attendees should arrive by 7:30. Due to the nature of the workshops, doors locked at 8:00. No admission after then.

Paideia (“pie DAY ah”) is a Greek word meaning “learning through play”. Paideia evenings are more than regular workshops. First we socialize. You may bring your dinner or snacks to eat during the munch period. Then we see demos. Then we do the structured hands-on workshop. You’ll work in pairs learning and refining your skills. Then during the open practice period, you may integrate your new skills with other play techniques. Or you may do more practice, or watch the variety of techniques that others practice.

You don’t need to bring anything. Flogging practice equipment will be available if you don’t have your own. But if you have floggers, bring them. You may also bring your general toy bag for the open practice period. You might also want to bring a pillow and/or a sheet, towel or blanket.

Partners. The workshop is aimed at pairs learning together. You may prearrange your lab partner, or pair up during the munch period. I just started a new tribe called BDSM Tribe Pointers specifically to provide a listing of all BDSM-related and other sexually explicit/alternative lifestyle-related tribes on Tribe.net. This is not a discussion tribe, just a listing of names and urls for other tribes.

It looks as if we're going to have to make our tribes private in order to survive the new Tribe Terms of Service and continue to operate. Private tribes do not show up on searches, so it's going to be difficult for new Tribe members to find us if they want to. Hopefully, at least this tribe will be able to remain public so that anyone looking for BDSM content will find it, and subsequently be able to find the rest of our tribes.

This is a very special Open Play Party, with a Holiday and Victorian theme.

Many of us will first spend the day at the Dickens Corset Faire, a reconstruction of Victorian London, as Charles Dickens saw it. Pay special attention to Mad Sal’s, the Dark Garden windows, and the Naughty French Postcards show (5:30). See http://dickensfair.com for info on the Faire, but they know nothing of the kinky party.

Then we’ll wear our holiday finest to the dungeon, and help decorate the Citadel’s tree. And we’ll recreate kinky scenes inspired by the repressed sexuality of Dickens’ time. Certainly some dominance and submission. Perhaps a nice caning, or an over-the-knee spanking. They don’t call it “the English vice” for nothing.

Whether you celebrate Winter Solstice, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or simply the snow season, come enjoy decking the tree with colorful ornaments and other pretties. We'll whip that tree into shape, and Top it with a dominant symbol of the season. Bring something to put on the tree or wear your finest Dickens Faire attire and get $5 off the evening's admission.

We have a critical mass of leather folks to make our own community within PE, and so have a fun evening. The munch part allows people to relax first and get to know each other, as well as to wind down from the day.

Those who don’t like the usual energy at PE will find this event refreshing. There is no pressure to play, and everyone feels safe. Singles, couples, and groups all welcome.

Munch RSVPs requested so we can better advise the restaurant how many tables to set aside. Email edukink@yahoo.com with "RSVP" in the subject line. But if you can’t rsvp, come along anyway. We’re at the tables farthest from the front door, by the mirrors.

You may come to either the munch, or the party, or both. People who attend the munch usually have dinner, but it’s ok to just have a snack or beverage, or just chat. The restaurant knows we’re kinky, and likes us. You may wear leather, fetish or vanilla.

We aim to be welcoming. This event attracts and welcomes all genders, orientations and play styles. We attract a mix of bdsm, poly, leather, fetish, goth, gender, kinky, exhibitionist, voyeur, and other folks. We have many regulars, plus new people every time. Some people bring toy bags, some don’t. We get a wide range of ages, races, backgrounds, and outlooks; we celebrate diversity. 18 and over only.

At 9 pm we walk from the restaurant, gather in front of PE, and enter as a group. If you enter before or after our one group, you won’t get the discount. Don’t ask them for it, you’ll just ruin it for everyone. Usually all our party gets in free. Sometimes a few single males pay a discounted rate.

It’s one block between the restaurant and dungeon. Most people park in front of PE, then walk to and from the restaurant. Note that there have been car break-ins in this area, so don’t leave anything visible or valuable in a vehicle.

Once inside PE, we usually take over the two largest spaces in the basement. Most of our party stays together, but you’re welcome to explore or play anywhere. Some people start playing immediately, others continue socializing. It’s a warm, relaxed evening, where we create our own energy. There is plenty of flirting, sharing tips, co-topping, group play, and other frolics. Some do pickup play, some only play with their partner, some don’t play in public. Some of us must leave by 11 pm, others stay way past midnight. We often have the whole place to ourselves for the first hour or two.

We discourage heavy cruising, which would drive people away. It’s ok to express an interest in playing with someone. Once only. Then let them get back to you if they’re interested.

Members of our group who are "coupled-up" enter the Power Exchange for free. We would prefer that you join us for dinner first, which is the best time to pair up "boy-girl". This gender balancing is only for purposes of entering PE.

Public transit: From Civic Center BART at Eighth, walk west on Market then left on South Van Ness. Or by MUNI: 1 block south of the Van Ness Muni underground station, accessible from any Muni streetcar. Or the 14 Mission, 42 Loop 49 and 47 Van Ness buses stop at Mission and 11th Street.

Lying

Here is a nice sensitive subject, which hardly anyone will address yet here it is: Lying, and Lying within the alternative lifestyles (to others within it).

How important is it to tell the truth?

I have been online for sometimes, and met a few here and there from both online and offline. Some of these people that I have met have in fact been quite truthful, others have misrepresented not only as to who they are, but about the encounters to which “we” had.

Some of these people who have misrepresented themselves, have done so not only privately but do so on the public forum, either online by way of posting or by speaking to their various online friends.

In the alternative lifestyle’s if be gay, lesbian, poly, (even het.), etc. etc. etc. by the vary nature of the various wants, desires, lusts, and/or way of life can be potentially exposed to STD’s, and/or just general health challenges. Further, when in “play” even if consented to, if not truthful, either party could be subject to criminal charges if the other party in question is not truthful about what actually occurred. This is not to mention just pure defamation within various communities since in general people take what their respective friends say as the truth without really knowing all the facts.

What if a person freely admits that he/she does lie? What if a person is willing to lie about one thing (as above) but says he/she is not going to lie about another thing? (e.g. I would not lie about that…..). In my book, this person as described cannot be trusted in any regard to tell the truth about important things within any type of lifestyle.

You really do not know when he/she is telling the truth do you?

At last!

SF Citadel is proud to announce that we have secured a new home. The
even better news is that this is one of our very top picks among all
the buildings and spaces we viewed, because it's got so much
possibility.

The new space is at 1277 Mission Street between 8th and 9th (yes,
right around the corner). It has two floors and the available space
is about equal to the current space. There is easy street parking at
night, parking lots close by, and it's even closer to mass
transportation.

As they say, "good things come to those who wait."

As we emailed recently, once Folsom is over, we will go into packing
mode. We have a "moving specialist" who will be organizing multiple
work parties to pack it all up and move it down the block. Work
parties will be starting sometime during the week after Folsom, and
you can help.

An update on the Upcoming SF Citadel Move

SF Citadel is planning to move from the 245 8th street location to a new space by mid-October 2005. We are considering a number of potential properties, and we're optimistic and excited about the potential for a great new party space.

As of this moment, we have visited and reviewed more than a dozen potential properties. Some are great. Some need work. Many are within our current budget. Some may require hosting additional activities, classes and parties. While some locations meet most of our criteria, we believe we can do better than the places we've seen. We have retained an
excellent real estate agent, and are committed to finding the best Leather Community Center/Dungeon possible.

Our timing for this move has changed. You may have heard that we would be moving toward the end of the year. 245 8th Street has been up for sale, and appears to have a buyer, who is moving a new business into the space. By moving out earlier, we can better accommodate our landlord, without whom SF Citadel would simply not exist. Our plan is to have a new property under contract before October 15, when we turn the current space over to the new tenants. Our opening date will be contingent on how much work needs to be done to transform the new space into a dungeon that will be as good or better than the current space.

Because we will be moving sooner, the last parties at the SF Citadel 8th Street location will be during Folsom Weekend. Please look for announcements, or continue to check the SFC website
(www.sfcitadel.org/) for information. These "pre-move" parties are going to be big! Make plans to be here to help us celebrate, because you're just not going to want to miss the fun.

We are contacting everyone who has a booking at SF Citadel after October 1. We hope to have as little disruption as possible, but please understand that inevitably there will be some bumps in the road. But with your understanding and flexibility, and a long term lease, we will all be able to enjoy the new space for years to come.

Thank you for your continued support. As soon as we settle on the right location, we will be announcing our plans for opening the new SF Citadel.

Yes, the ever-popular Sampler Night is returning this Thursday, May 12th, at SFCitadel. See the event posting for more details.

For bottoms who have always had curiosity about various play techniques, but are a little hesitant to try something new in scene, this is your chance to get a small taste of what several play techniques are like.

For you tops who are interested in learning some of these techniques, here's your chance to find out firsthand about what the experience will be like for your bottom.

A weekend of human pets, including two open parties, a day of classes, a video premiere, and a park outing.

A gorgeous show pony, a well-trained police dog, a pile of romping kittens, a latex stallion pulling his mistress’s cart, a zebra grazing at FSF, a leather wolf – animal role play creates magic for the participants and observers.

Pony play, and other animal role-play, is deeply rewarding in many ways. It allows you to be both submissive and powerful at the same time. You become primal, noble, and beautiful. Experienced players become pre-verbal and enjoy a different reality. It’s a profound way to leave behind human cares. For handlers, trainers, and owners, it’s a delight to work with such wonderful creatures.

Both parties provide stables and lunge area for ponies and large animals, plus cages, romp, and training areas for dogs and small animals. There are also two social areas and two complete bdsm play spaces with dozens of stations.

The first program is aimed at beginning players, as well as admirers and the curious. The second and third programs are aimed at intermediate players, and those who attended the first program. The material is divided into three class sessions, approximately: 1-2:30, 2:45-4:15, and 4:30-6. Most people attend all three sessions, and they are only priced as a single package. We include presentations, optional hands-on sessions, and a vendor displaying tack.

Seven presenters will cover:
- Overview of animal play
- Advice for new animals
- Advice for new handlers
- How to get into headspace (animal’s perspective)
- How to help animals into headspace, how to be a good handler
- Finding your totem animal
- The animal within
- Specific animals: Pony, Puppy, Dog, Kitten, Fox, Zebra, Butterfly, Dolphin, etc.
- Tack, toys, accessories, outfits, and garb
- Group discussion on trainer’s perspective
- Group discussion on animal’s perspective
- Veterinarian play
- Furry culture
- Negotiating an animal scene
- Places to live in role for days at a time
- Sources for animal play fantasy and photos

Those new to pet play will have a chance to try it (if they like), under the guidance of experienced players. This includes both new handlers and new animals. Experienced players will have an opportunity to discuss their experiences, and demo their style. It’s also a good chance to find new partners.

During the middle program we will show the San Francisco premiere of the documentary “Pup”. The director, Antonia Kao, will be there in person for discussion afterwards. This is the first documentary on puppy play. It covers Master Skip and Pup Tim as they prepare to compete in the International Puppy Contest, a leather title for human canines and their handlers. What to bring:
- your printed invitation
- photo ID, showing you are at least 18. Your legal name will not be recorded, and need not match your scene name. This is just to check age.
- toybag if you like.
- dress up a bit, e.g. all black, velvet, lingerie, goth, fetish, kinky, artsy, tragic, etc. You won’t be over the top here – the regulars really dress up. Just don’t look like you’re trying to look mundane. They may turn away or charge extra for someone wearing plain street clothes.

What to expect:
- BaGG takes over the entire nightclub, starting the evening with the upstairs and progressing downward. The place feels warm, elegant and decadent.
- The play space is in the middle. The equipment varies each week, but can hold 2-6 simultaneous scenes. If you play early in the night, there’s plenty of room.
- Due to alcohol licensing laws, you must follow “bar rules” – genitalia and female nipples must be covered. Tape is available from the DM, to cover those dangerous nipples.
- If you are over 21, they’ll give you a wrist band at the door, that permits you to buy and consume alcohol.
- BaGG attracts a wide age range, with an emphasis in the 18-30 range. Gender is balanced, and all orientations and fetishes welcome and represented.
- It is a very mellow event. Gawking and heavy cruising are actively discouraged. If you’re here to relax among fellow fetishists and kinksters, you’ll feel accepted. If you’re here to stare at the cute freaks, you’ll feel uncomfortable at best. The “hit her harder” crowd are not welcome.
- Other than violating bar rules, the play space is quite tolerant. It’s best to talk to the DM first, to say what you plan to do. That way he won’t need to interrupt to check that you know what you’re doing.
- The action picks up as the night progresses, but you’ll feel better if you show up in the first hour. Some people take a nap before they attend.
- Remember that this is not a sex club. Dancing is available. Fetish and bdsm are encouraged. Penetration is forbidden.

This class is for everyone who is new to the scene (less than a year) or wants a refresher course. Old hands also welcome. We cover what to expect, what to wear, how to fit in, and ways to be safe and happy. We allay fears, dispel myths, decode the jargon, and set reasonable expectations. Why do people do these things, what exactly do they do, and which ones might I want to do? Why and how is etiquette so much different in the scene? This is a good chance to have questions answered, and avoid getting the wrong reputation. Includes a tour of a working dungeon. And if you’re good, we’ll teach you the secret password.

Angela and Iain are officers in the Society of Janus, Dungeon Monitors for SF Citadel and elsewhere, and teach BDSM classes at all levels, at many venues. Both were beginners once. Their teaching style combines humor and approachability with clarity and thorough research.

In keeping with a nine-year tradition, this class is free, compliments of SF Citadel and the presenters. Donations to maintain SF Citadel are gratefully accepted. SF Citadel is a new, large, permanent play space in San Francisco.

Reservations not required. You don't need to bring or wear anything special. If time is tight, you can bring dinner to eat during the class. The class is open to anyone 18 years and older with a sincere, positive, personal interest in BDSM / leather / kink. All roles, genders, and orientations welcome. “Beginner’s Dungeon” is part of the monthly Newcomer’s Series of low-cost BDSM/leather classes mainly for those with less than three years in the face-to-face scene. Old hands also welcome. The classes may be taken in any order, and there is very little overlap between them, so consider attending them all.

The next part will be on Thursday May 5th, also at SF Citadel.
