This workshop solidifies your flogging techniques. It is suitable for beginners, but aimed at intermediates who want to improve and extend their skills. We cover the psychology of flogging, and both common and uncommon techniques – making you more versatile and effective. Learn and practice ten basic strokes, and know when to use them. Practice integrating flogging into whole scenes.
The evening has four parts:
7 – 7:30 Brown Bag Munch
7:30 – 8 Demos and tips
8-9:45 Hands-on Workshop
9:45-10:30 Open practice, using flogging in a scene of your choice.
All attendees should arrive by 7:30. Due to the nature of the workshops, doors locked at 8:00. No admission after then.
Paideia (“pie DAY ah”) is a Greek word meaning “learning through play”. Paideia evenings are more than regular workshops. First we socialize. You may bring your dinner or snacks to eat during the munch period. Then we see demos. Then we do the structured hands-on workshop. You’ll work in pairs learning and refining your skills. Then during the open practice period, you may integrate your new skills with other play techniques. Or you may do more practice, or watch the variety of techniques that others practice.
You don’t need to bring anything. Flogging practice equipment will be available if you don’t have your own. But if you have floggers, bring them. You may also bring your general toy bag for the open practice period. You might also want to bring a pillow and/or a sheet, towel or blanket.

What attendees will have said:
“It’s given me confidence and a lot more options.”
“Thorough and pragmatic. Very effective.”
“A class, a mini-party, and a munch. The best way to spend a Thursday. It’s already on my calendar for next month.”

“Effective Flogging” is part of the Paideia Series of monthly BDSM/leather events / workshops mainly for those of intermediate or advanced experience. The format intends to combine the best elements of hands-on workshops, a munch, a play party, and a peer workshop. More than a dozen topics are planned for these workshops, on both common and exotic topics. We hope to develop a loyal following who want to increase the depth and breadth of their play.
The next Paideia workshop will be on Thursday, February 9th, also at SF Citadel.

This particular workshop does not require RSVP. Just show up. Some future Paideias may require RSVP.

Re: partners for 01/12 Effective Flogging workshop
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 3:13 PMA clarification on partnering and this evening’s exercises:
This particular Discussion Topic is for people who plan to attend alone, and want a head start on arranging a lab partner. Posters will probably have more luck if they put info in their profile and message about themselves, e.g. top/switch/bottom, male/female/trans, gay/bi/straight. Not that this is a dating service. You’re just looking for someone to help you practice for a few hours. It might actually be easier if it was someone you don’t plan to date, so you’re not distracted or inhibited.
It’s also possible to do the class without a partner, but you’d be deprived of the individual feedback you’d get.
Typically, a class like this attracts more tops than bottoms. Some bottoms mistakenly assume that they don’t need to know this stuff. The bottoms who do attend know:
- It’s useful to learn to spot good (and safe) topping skills from a distance.
- It’s a fine shopping opportunity to check out many tops in action.
- Bottoms who attend are pretty much guaranteed to be in demand for play.
Let me also note that we strongly recommend that tops try bottoming to the technique during the class. All the best tops have tried receiving the techniques they perform. This is one of the best ways to refine your skills. It’s not mandatory in the class, but recommended.
